Thoughts on Provider -> Customer notification

@MCH-Phil: Some simple algorithms could detect alot of difficulties e.g: services without any ports, ranges or a DMZ configured (e.g after a day) a HTTPS port on port 80, or a HTTP port on port 443 (although I am considering validating this) a port for domain "www.example.com" but no port...

Thoughts on Provider -> Customer notification

I have been thinking about this for a few days and would like to get the enlightened members of VPSB on this. Sometimes users create services and struggle to find the resources necessary to set them up, or have trouble doing so. Support can always help but not everyone asks for it. Its rare but...

    Ideas and suggestions for vpsBoard

Err *facepalm*, yes it does. How about some CSS colouring on the mention - I never get mentioned so assumed it wasnt even linked (no style difference).

    Ideas and suggestions for vpsBoard

Can we get a plugin for @Username mentions (with email notifications sent) like on Vanilla? Posts other than the latest can be quoted, but that only helps some of the time (mentions for out of thread users etc)

Rage4 "Prey-as-you-go" extortioncast DNS business model

Have you talked to Piotr? He is a nice guy and I am sure you could work something out. Generally he is also willing to discuss features if there is a demand and a viable use case (we got some done on the API side). Perhaps even a "free-only" (cuttoff at limit) switch or something.

    32MB Club: Now self sustaining

This isn't industry news, its your company's flavour of the day. Your company is not big enough to deserve updates every few days. Nor is this news.

Internet routing table breaks 512,000 routes

How would routes of size /24 be routed if routers without support where to filter them? Do they just get a default route to one upstream carrier and go from there?

Have you ever been given more resources then you paid to receive?

Yes, quite often I've received greater than target than specification hard drives. Usually it costs more to de-rack and downgrade than the depreciation and lost income for those parts. I have also received a Xeon based server when ordering a i7 Quad core (was cleared with me first). And an...

Binding a process to an IP on Linux

Have you ever encountered a piece of software that didn't include a feature to allow it to be bound to a specific IP? Or connect to a remote server (IP) via a specific interface or source IP? Unfortunately this is far to common, either with Open Source software or even more common with...

Internet routing table breaks 512,000 routes

nginx.com and nginx.net had routing issues yesterday to "some US subnets". Hosted by (M5 Computer Security). Probably related.

    OVH vs Hetzner dedi

Hetzners DDoS handling policies was one of the main reasons we first opened our DDoS Protection range (I used to have quite a few servers with them). Not that I would call it bad, its as expected for a good quality network without mitigation technology.

Question regarding OVH spam filtering and providers that use them.

They do have filtering, requires tickets to get it fixed. Both times we saw it (both falseish positives from end users with bouncy forum mass emails), it was just port 25 blocked. I don't know if there is an escalation where the entire IP is blocked, I haven't seen it but it sounds frightening...
