It doesn't matter if Thunderbird 'uses' the external IP or not.   It has nothing to do with whether the address is 'internal' or 'external'. It's about 'allowing' the usage of IP-addresses, ANY IP-address AT ALL, instead of DNS-names ( i.e. '[email protected]' instead of '[email protected]' ).

It seem to be the complete opposite. :P The client (Thunderbird) announces itself with the local IP, which is not accepted by the mail server. I think the problem could be related to exim not being configured to allow "domain/address literals" (RFC2821) and (RFC1123). Theoretically you...

Of course ! The whole floor is carpeted and there's usually a fold-out couch/bed in the back (right now I'm using it to transport 'stuff'). The back-seat is also a 'sofa', at least one person can sleep in it.

A 'no refund' policy wouldn't help. This particular customer is a moron. And although it's annoying - there's really no harm done, the customer will never win a PP-dispute under these circumstances.
