Do any of you use hardware vendors? If so do you buy new or used parts? Do you know of any used parts hardware vendors? Are you happy with your vendor and their prices?

I would only buy new for production use.

Personally, I shop newegg, amazon, tigerdirect, and local shops.

We are using both. New and used. Depend on your budget, if you have budget, 100% recommend go with new item.

Always buy new.

We buy bulk directly from the manufacturer or wholesale distributor. It's the only way we can get prices so low.

We've used SuperBiiz for all of our large hardware orders. The only things we've bought used were chassis' and we've regretted it in some cases. Have also ordered from NewEgg and Amazon. Newegg and Amazon ship the fastest for us but mainly because SuperBiiz is on the west coast.

Where I work we order some parts (hard drives, etc) as well as Windows 7 licenses from Ma Labs, which is SuperBiiz's parent company. They get stuff here the day after we order it. But they're also very close by. It's amazing how fast they are.

I'm sure they charge us for shipping but I'm 100% certain we pay the cheapest shipping possible.

It seems there is a lengthy application to get an account? From your experience is it worth the process?

I don't think so, we just emailed and got quote / instructions pretty easily. Same process as SuperBiiz really.

I've ordered parts from the superbiiz website before. I'm not sure everyone understands though - when I asked for vendors I wasn't totally asking about a consumer site. I was asking about more of a place you go to, where you buy in a large (sometimes not so large) quantity to get a better price than at the retail sites.

Shops on EBay that sale new and many of the online consumer places will also sale you deep discounts on bulk orders if you ask. Well they do for me/us anyway.

So you've got hard drives at a reduced rate rather than retail?

Just by emailing our SuperBiiz account manager we get discounted pricing, on small or large quantities. They have a retail side but they also do customized ordering via their account managers.

They do bulk, they even do fair discounts on 5-10 servers. Email [email protected] with your original quote order, you'll get a reply from someone and they will also be your main account manager for all future orders.

For Supermicro builds I've been pleased with ICC-USA.   They're one of the oldest Supermicro vendors.
