    Cache side-channel attack for VMs

I'm no hacker but this kind of thing has always struck me as a potential risk in a shared environment, but one of low priority as most people are never a target until an automated brainless script is made for the skids. That said, it's certainly an interesting discussion to have, and who knows...

New York - What Interest is there?

Problem, in my opinion, would be getting people to read past a title when we're in a situation where you could toss a rock and hit 1500 new startups declaring themselves as NY VPS providers. A NY offering with a quality blend and not racked with 40,000 other Velocity Servers clients would be a...

My ioping is better than your DD

Basically I would have to agree that the test serves a purpose. Perhaps it is held too highly and it's results considered too relevant, but that reality does nothing to decrease it's relevance. If I run a dd test and get 5mb/s I'm never returning because this provider is clearly allowing insane...

    [TX]Catalyst Host: $30/Year 256MB(KVM) and $7 2GB(openVZ) Limited Stock

    Certainly could be a worse situation for a tunnel.   [root@node6 ~]# traceroute 184.105.253.10 traceroute to 184.105.253.10 (184.105.253.10), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets  1  23.29.121.65 (23.29.121.65)  2.419 ms  2.478 ms  2.506 ms  2  r1-side-from-sc.inceronetwork.com (192.211.63.1)...

    [TX]Catalyst Host: $30/Year 256MB(KVM) and $7 2GB(openVZ) Limited Stock

Interestingly I just realized that we've got 0.5ms ping to an IPv4 point for HE IPv6 tunnel. I just added some in SolusVM just for fun. If anyone has a reason for them and doesn't mind a tunnel. Don't know if that's something we'll advertise so much as offer when asked... until something more...

    [TX]Catalyst Host: $30/Year 256MB(KVM) and $7 2GB(openVZ) Limited Stock

Haven't even started the conversation with our IP provider. Perhaps we could open a dialogue with ARIN. So long as most ISPs in the US continue to ignore the protocol it just doesn't serve much of a purpose from my perspective. Certainly not opposed to it.

    Dedicated server for 3 €

I'd settle for standing in line and buying at the new price and not seeing that their delivery company canceled the order after they all left the office for the weekend. Is my bitterness showing?

W1H-Lee Request Removal of Provider Title

Sure you could enforce things like this, but you could also just close topics to cool people off by cutting off conversations, then let the rest work out as it will. If Lee is acting poorly and his business is at risk for it, he suffers the consequences. You have to remember that the other...

    Dedicated server for 3 €

I'm more worried that they'll cancel it for me now. You don't just replace your product offering, throw out a new policy that excludes existing clients from purchasing the products they could the day before, then bail for the weekend.

Help me decide, I'm torn between 2 servers.

My take, if I understand it's purpose like I think I do. For personal use, offload any actual hosting to a cheap VPS with someone you trust (hint: top of LEB right now) and keep the personal toy/development to a kimsufi or online.net for easier reinstalls (hardly worth the $75 just for the...

    Dedicated server for 3 €

As far as competing with a VPS, of course it's simple that under an ideal scenario a VPS is more powerful than these dedicated servers. An E3 or E5 core is certainly going to give you more room to burst for things like a busy afternoon of traffic to your website. Everything has it's function. I...

Bandwidth is certainly something we have a lot of. I don't think one of our nodes has used 1TB (backups excluded) in a month yet.

My ioping is better than your DD

Personally I don't care. The provider should be putting clients on a server that can handle the load and should be actively monitoring for abuse. If the client wants to see dd, ioping, or ask how often I do my laundry, I'll tell them whichever detail lands the sale. It's all truth.

What Munin graphs are important to you?

CPU %, load, disk utilization, and firewall throughput are the ones I look at the most.

    New logo

Looks like a random texture. Mentally I don't take away "grid" from the texture applied there. May just be me.
