    E3-1230 16GB Ram, 4 x 1 TB HDD, 100TB BW, KVM/IPMI, Leaseweb DC

Oh god, here we go. 1.  That domain name, ARGGHHH! 2.  "Our success lies in your success" Yeah, I get what you are trying to communicate.  Success  + lies = success :).   This communicates very bad to casual reader. 3. Lists Delaware address and US phone number, but shows euro pricing on...

Anyone running solar powered stuff at home?

Geez that's a big installation. Didn't realize GM was deploying solar installs this size.

Anyone running solar powered stuff at home?

There is really very little to learn with systems like Mann is tinkering with.  Same applies to most solar builds until you amass lots of watts and get into stacking controllers, stacking batteries, AC conversion, etc. As-is in this thread, if you've ever worked with 12VDC power (think your...

Anyone running solar powered stuff at home?

The old back porch mount job.  That's a field test setup.  You need proper mounting before a breeze sends those flying.  Never lost one in the wind, but they can and will catch air. Had to fetch some once as a storm rolled in and it wasn't fun.  With these, glass will get broken and that's about...

Mozilla announces the death of unencrypted HTTP

Lots of breakage will ensue. Unsure why Mozilla is picking this battle really.   Not innovating and slagging browser share, so let's adopt a flawed "privacy" approach to own a niche ideally. I'm all for SSL-enabled everything, optionally and with graceful fallback. Whole thing along with...

    tell your SSD failure stories

Fingers crossed - haven't had a failed SSD yet. With the fails above I am wondering if failures like such are that common or just bad quality of batches from manufacturing? Reminds of LED bulbs and their insane claims of lifespan and durability.  Meh, real world with those 1-2 years.

Anyone running solar powered stuff at home?

@MannDude,  did you follow the manual for controller to put in correct usage mode?  That controller is targeted towards solar lighting - think walkway lights overhead.  It has a bunch of different modes.  Make sure it's best choice on config for your use. I have the same controller - I do...

    Being a Vegetarian

Well, it's a false deficiency perception. Like 'normal' diets, you have folks that eat very poorly (junk food, too much filler, sugar, etc.). Vegans I've known have mainly been uber health focused.  Think diverse eating and lots of veg, juicing, actual food preparation, etc. Vitamin and...

    Crunchbang Linux is Back!

I know a lot of the folks around here were fans of Crunchbang distro... for older hardware, minimalist GUI, etc. Crunchie tossed in the towel earlier this year.  For a long time the dev and releases were really delayed. Someone else has picked up Crunchbang and running with it for the future...

    How cheap can they go?

Oh there are so many ARM boards I can't keep track of them :)  Once you get up north of $100 for a feature packed ARM board the cost doesn't make sense... well usually...  Anything you can recommend to me @rds100?  Cubietruck, yes, long on the list - need to find someone with one to see how...

    How cheap can they go?

Aside from $9 intended target, I have not much interest in it.  I'd buy 5 just to have them and use for randomness.  Maybe they'll make good thin clients? I am waiting for more feature packed ARM stuff.  Better drive interfaces, ability to actually move data at a respectable speed, etc.   Right...

How To: Determining how many 'VPS neighbors' you have or if you are on an oversold OpenVZ node

Yeah, it's micro instances - true lowendboxes.  64-256MB offerings. Mind you the industry relies on people buying and things sitting there 99%+ idle.  I imagine the LES stuff is a curious mixed bag of use.... Probably chunk that uses it for VPN 24/7.  Rest of the purchases, bound to be idle...

This is awesome.  But mid 2016 public probably.   $9 hehe, I doubt it.  But I've been wrong before.
