    LET Down?

People still blocked ehh? I am with the great magician Francisco that says packets are being eaten by DDoS Deflate or something similar. Saw this request a page then get nulled by LET a few days back - over and over. Multi-hour nulls. DDoS is what is... Profile it wrong and you implicate your...

    LET Down?

Oh you bad boyzzzzzz.  Ban hammered. Someone ping Kossen.  Has to be an error.  Neither of you probably have a clue why you were banned.

Comfort host, any thoughts about them?

Well once upon a time I had someone using their SpotVPS brand and it was hellacious.   Lots of downtime, craptastic performance, atypical lowend style experience.  Been a while (read: beyond a year ago).

Hungary Proposes New Tax on Its Internet Traffic

VAT, yeah definitely high in Hungary.  Reads like a bad southern joke VAT + HUNGARY... We'll be eating fat off the bone... Some folks are fine with VAT but lots of complaints about VAT in general. Taxes only make sense where tax payers see / derive benefit from such.   With VAT I doubt...

    Cloud Deployment

The DO API has curl support... so easy enough in theory to perfect some homebrewed scripts around the examples. Should be easy enough to string together a create and destroy script with variables and some simple means of tracking what you have deployed with DO.  API has "get" resources for...

Hungary Proposes New Tax on Its Internet Traffic

I love it.  Well sort of. "Under the current tax code private individuals' tax payments are maximized at a monthly 700 forints ($2.9) while companies cannot pay more than 5,000 forints a month." That's a reasonable tax today.  $2.90 a month.  It's a little high as an item tax and ideally would...

    LET Down?

Surprisingly, the Cloudflare stuff isn't bombing for me on LE*.  I have many horrors elsewhere with sites fronted with it, so I am perplexed.    Other have legit problems still accessing LE*,  I am unsure what the culprit is other than some setting within CF. As for LEB offers,  real head...

Dacentec New Price Schemes - Lowers Costs - Rent Only?!

There are plenty of places to buy land and do your own development in the US at a reasonable cost.  The whole land developer renting/leasing to you model in the USA is really short sighted for any datacenter.  Not like a DC should be planning on moving any time soon.  Meaning investing properly...

Datashack.net (Kansas City) To Migrate Colo Customers with 1 Day Notice

I doubt the property @Francisco was a hand-me-down.   There is a 1600 Clay incorporation who per se owns the property. Prior to that the property had been owned by a big printing company (international) and the address appeared in the past in documents for Superfund sites (locations of mass...

Datashack.net (Kansas City) To Migrate Colo Customers with 1 Day Notice

Seriously though, something up with Datashack real estate.  Good sized chunk of acre inside a pretty alright condition brick industrial structure.   Running like 8/10th of an acre in total land. Property taxes $85 a year... So says Clay County records.   This is a property that has to be...

    A P4 pulling 1A (120 watts @ 120V) =  720 hours in a month x 120 watts = 86400 / 1000 = 86.4 KwH 87 KwH x .05 (5 cents per KwH) = $4.35 a month in power. That's less than 50% of what they are charging.   P4's are long ago paid off :)  So cost is power mainly.

Datashack.net (Kansas City) To Migrate Colo Customers with 1 Day Notice

Interesting.  I went looking quickly and didn't find anything. I expect tax abatements on datacenter builds that involve real estate development (is mega common all over the States).

Dacentec New Price Schemes - Lowers Costs - Rent Only?!

Not a bad change per se for Dacentec.  More cost for RTO, which always sort of was more costly than buyers realize. I mean the rate while it goes down on their RTO at end of contract, doesn't do so automatically (requires you ticket them and sign off on some stuff).  Then they doink around the...

    Kindle vs actual books?

I have an e-ink device from B&N and it just sucks as shipped... Never got around to hacking it to make it more functional. Tried the whole normal tablet reading thing and I just hate it. I still buy paper books and prefer them.  When I do e-reading I do it on a computer and large monitor /...
