What do you use your Raspberry Pi for?

I am loving my Pi.  It's a nifty piece of time waste :)  Performance on disk, network, etc. is meh.  It's not server grade in any way, but sure is a cobbler/hacker/tinkerers wet dream. A few random things I am liking: 1. The Pi has an RNG Random Number Generator built in.  Requires module +...

GreenValueHost tells their non high paying clients to GTFO

World's biggest golf clap for @GVH-Jon.  Chin up man.   I don't understand how cPanel shared hosting spiraled so much out of control.  But I presume there were crazy no real income unlimited plans and those who bought actually used.  Sound right? Me, I'd never throw a customer away.  That's...

GetKVM_Ash back with yet another VPS brand

Folks may remember GetKVM_Ash and his last flipped brand: http://vpsboard.com/topic/1781-getkvm-acquired-by-bradler-krantz-co/ Well, as per a WHT offer, Ash is back with a new brand: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1323724 The new brand is Virtual6. Location is Kansas City...

Anyone have an LG Smart-TV? Possibly privacy concern. LG Smart TVs logging USB filenames and viewing

WoW!  WTF is wrong with these companies?   Telling consumers too damn bad your opted in.... Even though the opt out in the menu in the set doesn't do a damn thing.

    Lightweight proxy for Raspberry Pi

PHPProxy won't work since this isn't web browsing one off pages, but basically anything that can be stuffed into a SOCK5 proxy or equivalent.  Includes desktop software. @Monkburger,  I've never messed with strace, interesting new thing for me.  Here's what I am getting from a minute or two...

Uruguay new location, interesting? not? why? We love your feedback !

Interesting location.  I vote for VPS.   Nice to see some place entirely different!

VPSAce hacked, database stolen, encryption key for cards likely taken

I agree about the Javascript = insecure take over vector.  Slews of sites now requiring JS enabled or they won't load.   Of course Cloudflare is part of that plague.  But there are certainly the malicious out there serving you special payloads.

GreenValueHost tells their non high paying clients to GTFO

Hey look at their upstream.  They are kind of known for the mass slum loading of servers and selling imaginary resources.   They have the formula down pretty good. Load up SSD flash cache, map SSDs as active RAM / active RAM swap. Possible on an E3?  Sure.   Wizardry, a little bit. All they...

GreenValueHost tells their non high paying clients to GTFO

Sure, that's very probable. There was/is a migration path and they refused to use it. It's strange to sell products at a loss, then decide it's not profitable.   If anything, the shared cPanel is more scalable and abuseable than VPS.   I see big fat VPS plans that they are selling at last...

GreenValueHost tells their non high paying clients to GTFO

It gets better... Just in past hour, along comes a flowery review of GVH's shared hosting, even though the customer is being dumped off with someone else.   This is from WHT: Link: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?p=8917198 So let me get this straight,   the shared cPanel hosting...

    Lightweight proxy for Raspberry Pi

Tinkering with my Raspberry Pi.    One of the first projects is to centralize my network outbound traffic in one spot.    Main piece there is a proxy. I tried Squid and Privoxy. Squid hits 40-60% of CPU at around 1600KB/s Privoxy hits 30-40% of CPU at around the same throughput. Config for...

GreenValueHost tells their non high paying clients to GTFO

WTF. So GreenValue dumps users on their head and migrates them to HVH, the cPanel shared clients.  You'd expect them to be out of shared hosting (i.e. not profitable).   But no. Today, on WHT, a freaking sales job for more shared hosting from them...

GreenValueHost tells their non high paying clients to GTFO

Good points and work @DomainBop!    The tl;dr = GreenValueHost is not compliant with the State of Illinois for their incorporation.  They've failed to do something, be it filing fees, annual reports, whatever.  Therefore the corporation is little to no value and all liability should now fall...
