    Prometeus.com is 16 years today!

Prometeus is a real solid provider.   16 years in business?  Long time even if just the domain.

Looking for Chicago, IL (non-ColoCrossing) VPS

No reason to go with the dark side just because they are in Chicago. If you MUST have a Chicago proper VPS, these guys I highly recommend: http://serveraxis.com/

    Help me save my connection!

I'd be looking for his MAC address then in firmware for QoS by IP.  Stick him to a "static" IP and squash his throughput. Me, I'd hope he wasn't downloading illegal stuff or doing anything concerning.  Most folks aren't, but that's always present issue with open connection.

dd-wrt b/g/n cheap hardware that works

I like the Buffalo routers.   Confused to all end with their model numbers and deciphering differences between models.  Finding semi-decent models at low price point hasn't happened lately. Have an N series unit from them that had their own OS running with some useful features that dd-wrt...

    WSI

Wholesale Interenet is a solid operation, but with some cautions. They seem to have more activity than staff to handle everything in manner many want (quick and completely).  Unsure how many servers they have in their facilities, but has to be a pretty big number by now. I am apprehensive...

Looking for Chicago, IL (non-ColoCrossing) VPS

Not being extremely helpful here, but look for VPS providers with Steadfast or Continuum. @24khost and southbendservers both have offers out of Colostore which isn't far from Chicago.

Looking to cobble another wifi access point together for one of the various VPN/SSH tunnel centralized ideas.       Ahhh, which shade tree operation is offering 4x 500GB SSD's + 32GB of RAM server for $89/moth?  That has to be with both a contract (annual or longer and cash money up front buy down).

    Hosted by Colocrossing

That has be one of the dumbest thing ever said by a provider. "Look we have big drainage pipes so things can't flood".  Then along comes a big rain or in this instance bad traffic and boom. While CC might have some "big" commits for bandwidth, those aren't big enough to live through modern...

What do you look for in a provider?

    1. Location, find someone when and where I need service. 2. Reputation.  I look in the typical locations to see how much their company reps chat on forums or don't.  If someone is a pitbull attacking competitors (CVPS) I avoid (well after establishing that is an ongoing many target thing). 3...

    Audio on my Linux PC?

I have the multiple soundcard detect issue all the time on my various notebooks.  Seems to be common on Debian and derivatives. Browsers and sound on linux are spotty at best.  Chrome (which I kind of hate) comes out of the box post install with Flash installed or open source equivalent.  ...

    Cheapest Dedis With KVM Support

Anyone recommend older processors and low power ones that would support VT-X?   I know the Intel L5xxx CPUs will support this and they show up in the lower tier of pricing these days. Quickpacket / @qps was offering good pricing on these not too long ago.  Not $30 a month, but maybe with some...
