What do you use your Raspberry Pi for?

My present Pi is being used as a headless download system, connected with a pretty old IDE HDD, using a USB to IDE Converter. Using a normal PC SMPS to power the whole system. Will post a pic of the whole setup soon. Have ordered 2 more Pi's which will be delivered by next week.

Best Linux OS for desktop use?

Mint for a newcomer and Debian Sid, if you need to customize and break things. Debian has been the main distro on my laptop and I never had to reinstall it. I have a 50GB free partition on which I try out new distros, but it has been a while.

    Storage VPS

For 100GB, you could try RamNode's 512MB Plan, with SSD Cached HDD. It comes with 120GB storage and with the Black Friday code "BLACK42", you could get a discount of 42%, making the cost somewhat around 4.5$, which is a steal price, considering the performance.

    Little project I'm starting

If its something that integrates well with a web based panel, it will be great. Features like adding a domain from the cli interface will reflect in the web based one too.

    Any Ruby fans?

So, anyone here use Ruby or RoR? I have been hearing a lot about it, and many suggested me to have a look, as its easy to code. But, I just went through the basics and put it there. I have tried deploying ruby apps, mostly diaspora and gitorious. Diaspora wasn't that hard, but never got...

    Quiting smoking.

I am trying to get my cousin quit smoking. He smokes almost a pack a day. Everytime I see him, I try to convince him, but he just says he is trying and continues the same. Maybe its because I haven't smoked and don't know how hard its to give up.

Free Public DNS resolver list (public DNS servers)

I have been a fan of OpenDNS for a longtime and it worked good. Using their filtered DNS IP's 208.67.220.123 and 208.67.222.123 at home to keep myself and my brothers away from porn :P and their default ones at office and the place where I stay. I hate the redirection at times. Got introduced...

BuyVM ColoCrossing Bye Bye Hello Choopa Move Today!

@drmike Thanks for the nearest OpenNIC DNS IP's. I have two boxes, which were moved to the new DC and everything seems fine. The downtime was around 13 hours and since it was night here, no issues for me.

    Consumer perspective: openvz vs KVM

Trust in the provider is something that matters with OpenVZ. I have few OVZ with BuyVM, RamNode and Hostigation. Even if they oversell, I am happy with the resource my VM's get. Most of mine are 512MB and a few 1GB's and I am not pushing the most of it as what I run there is just LAMP stack, for...

    Cell Phones

Well, more than 2 year old LG Optimus One P500, running Android 2.3 Cyanogenmod. Why should I switch when it does all things I need, and I hate carrying phones with big screens.

    WHMCS 24/10/2013 Vuln

Well, yet another vulnerability. Feels like its a good time to give a demo of the panel my team was developing for our internal billing. It now can handle individual invoices, recurring invoices, customer login, shopping cart and basic support tickets. If anyone is interested in developing it...

    The pets thread

I have 2 white cats (Mother and a 3 month old kitten), but both of them are too shy to pose for photos :P We also had a small dog, no idea about the breed, but was smaller than the usual dogs in our area. One of my cousins brought him to our house, when he was around 4 or 5 months old. Stayed...

    Hostnames

For a change, I use not so frequent color names for the naming. So, the hostnames look like: aeneous.mydomain.com, argent.mydomain.com, azuline.mydomain.com, etc I can associate an HEX value of the color to the names, which I make use of when running an HTTP server.

    Antivirus

I don't use Windows in any of my systems now a days and when someone asks me for a free antivirus, I suggest Immunet. During my widows days, I have tried all sort of free Antivirus available then and most of them have given me nothing other than troubles, deleting system files and exe's which I...

    Staying healthy in this industry

Cycling to and fro office for the physical fitness. I am so thin, even though I eat a lot, and my colleagues are jealous of me as I could eat as much as I like, without putting on weight, while they are trying hard to reduce their tummies.
