What could be the cause for auditd to use almost 400% CPU?

It's not the REAL auditd, it's a malicious process using that name running out of /tmp. zPanel is your culprit. I'm not sure what it does, but it's not what auditd does. Those processes USED to be named "ksoftirqx", but their names changed recently.

Is that a normal iowait level for spinning disks?

Some do. Don't have the list in front of me but I have looked into it.

Anyone have a hash of the binary? Next time I spot a compromised VPS I'll grab an md5 hash of the binary, but if anyone has it now, that would be useful. Still out of /tmp I assume?

    New SolusVM Release!

KVM is the only one using QEMU though, as far as I can tell. OpenVZ uses OpenVZ stuff, and Xen uses xen domu kernels and such. The tricky thing is that SolusVM would need to package an RPM for QEMU 1.7.1 and add it to their Repo, OR support Ubuntu/some other distro for KVM host nodes.

    New SolusVM Release!

Part of it may be that the version of QEMU CentOS ships DOES NOT support websockets (that I've seen). qemu-kvm 0.12.1 is ancient.

    Seagate Drives

I've never had issues with Seagate drives (consumer level). Well, excluding a 160GB Laptop drive which suffered a bit of a fall, but I don't blame it. Desktop drives also have been okay. WD on the other hand... I have one 2.5" drive which did okay but I've relegated to non-use as I replaced it...

What's your Windows text editor of choice?

Notepad++ for life. Set WinSCP to use it instead of its default editor for extra goodness.

Technology based charities? Community powered charity auction?

Free Geek is nice. I've volunteered there some myself, but it's a bit of a drive from where I live. They do great things for underfunded school districts.

    Ubuntu Download Time

So, to max out that 100TB/mo you'd need to keep an average traffic utilization of 319Mbps. That's a lot of traffic...

    The latest paypal policy updates

I've never run into issues with clients from the UK. Now, China... CHINA... And of course people from the US... Ugh.

ChicagoVPS review of customer passwords from database dumps

Precisely how Feathur does it. The root password box in WHMCS does nothing. You have to use the activation link to set your Feathur account password, then you have to set your VPS root password in Feathur (for OpenVZ). This confuses some new users despite being stated in the welcome email...

Spring has sprung... Time to get outside...

FINALLY A WEEKEND OF SUN AND WARMTH (63F is pretty warm for Oregon Spring, AND not raining!). Might go out and enjoy it, though I'd probably melt...

    Seagate brings out 6TB HDD

RAID 10 it, with 3 disks per RAID 1 mirror set. With 6TB of data to have to recover, the chances of a URE in the mirror pair go up DRASTICALLY, and that would so not be good. That or RAID 16. (RAID 6 made up of RAID 1 mirrors). Yay Redundancy!

Might the licenses be under the name "ColoCrossing"? :P

Might wanna recompile or patch that OpenSSL, buddy (4/7/2014)

FYI, CentOS 6.5 will still have the version "e" version string, but it WAS Backported.

    TV series recommendations?

My favorites (in no particular order): Southland- Pure awesome. Star Trek: TNG- Also pure awesome. Star Trek: DS9- More pure awesome. Star Trek: Voyager- Pretty good. Star Trek: Enterprise- Not really all that bad. Bones- Realism issues aside, it's an interesting show. Numb3rs- Ignoring the...

Running haveged to enhance your system entropy

I'm fairly certain that was me. Made my VPS much faster, even though it's not doing anything super heavy on randomness.
