Project Plugs. What are you working on?

So many projects at the moment... A new distributed jump system, a completely overhauled website for one of our brands, updates to our website for another. Next week I'm heading to our Oregon datacenter for some major switching upgrades. All sorts of fun stuff!

    New look

I like it quite a bit! Very clean and sleek. I was browsing around when the change happened (I think) and was caught off guard for a moment there.

Anyone else use Monitor.us? How many false positives do you receive?

We use StatusCake and it's been continually going downhill -- we have false positives all the time ranging from a couple seconds to two minutes, which is really quite annoying. We used to use Hyperspin which was pretty good -- never had a false positive there!

    The knife thread.

Oh, I have a couple M Tech's. Good little $10 knives, wouldnt count on them though -- the pivot screw tends to fall out quite easily I notice.

    The knife thread.

Add Kershaw to that list :) Columbia, Leatherman, Gerber, and Kershaw. I too live in Oregon. I carry a Kershaw Clash ever day (great thing to note that having a CHL allows you to carry a knife, as well as a gun, in public buildings in Oregon). In addition I have a Leatherman Surge as well as a...

BitCoin in the hosting industry case study... who wants to partake?

Be happy to participate. We've accepted Bitcoin for a bit now, oddly enough have not had a lot of people grab on to it.

Shaw Communications (Canada) buys Viawest (US Datacenters)

The ViaWest location in Portland, OR is pretty nice. Almost put some equipment there.

    Fiberhub running on generator power

Hah! I did not know you frequented these forums, Rob! I lost no faith in you and your team, simply an idle question. Good job with the successful transfer!

    Fiberhub running on generator power

You're lucky. We had to grab two /24's from them because we were in a bind back in April, and they still have not been SWIP'd. Last reply was over a month ago. We have another ticket where we have some spam listings around said IPs that are causing us issues. That's been open since June 28th...

    Fiberhub running on generator power

That's good to know. I like Rob, I really do, but his hit and miss communication style sometimes drives me batty.

    Fiberhub running on generator power

Just got this lovely email from Fiberhub. Glad their backup system is working so far, I'll be curious to see if it continues to do so!

    Windows System Administrator

That's correct. My Documents is either redirected to a SAN or to Onedrive/Skydrive/whatever you want to call it now. Linux -- generally there's either Cacti or Opsview. Occasionally a district will have Observer. But sometimes there's SolarWinds and their suite. It really depends on the school...

    Windows System Administrator

Well, this is probably a bit different in a corporate environment, but in a school environment we restrict students via GPO to be unable to make changes to their profile. In addition we use a product called Faronics DeepFreeze which makes it so that even if the students manage to get around our...

    Windows System Administrator

My other job is a System Analyst for an agency called the Education Service District. It's between a county agency and the state agency of education, so I am in a team of 28 that covers five counties totaling around 30,000 square miles. I go to school districts and provide regular maintenance...

    Free Socks From Sophos

I love Sophos, they're really pretty excellent. In previous jobs I've deployed their SWA and SEA solutions. I did deploy their NAC once which I was not so impressed with, but SWA and SEA I've been very impressed with!

    Burst.net circling the drain?

Heh. No, Burst is not keeping their colo customers just FYI. They pawned them off on DC74. @merlino unfortunately I think you're SOL. We've had some pretty good success getting peoples dedicated servers powered on for 24 hours so they can transfer to us, but so far we have not had any success...
