    Lowend Colo

If you colo in Texas, keep in mind that you'll get a yearly tax bill for hosting your equipment inside a Texas datacenter even if you're company is based outside of Texas. The taxes are based on the value that they think your equipment is worth which is non-negotiable according to some of the...

    ARIN IPv6 Allocation for Free?

As of last year IPv6 is essentially free if you're paying for IPv4 already. Prior to that IPv6 was almost double the cost of IPv4 depending on your IPv4 allocation.

Budget Dedi requirement >4GB RAM, Supports Virtualization

The only reason I left CM is because they stopped accepting online payments and I didn't want to deal with mailing them a check every month and I wasn't going to move away from a monthly billing term with them either.

Budget Dedi requirement >4GB RAM, Supports Virtualization

Better than paying annually. ;) The only thing I don't like about it is I forget when my next invoice is due so I have to make a mental note to save funds each month for the invoice since it's bigger than I'm used to paying in one shot. Also I wouldn't put anything critical on their servers...

Budget Dedi requirement >4GB RAM, Supports Virtualization

Go grab a DelimiterVPS server, I've had one for a few months now and it's pretty impressive for $29/month. Setup time took less than a week for me and my co-worker also. Network isn't the greatest but uptime has been 99.995% since I signed up 53 days ago. HP BL460C Dual L5420, 16GB, 1TB Disk...

Looking for a Raspberry Pi alternative with 2 ethernet ports.

I would prefer to not have to use any adapters. The smaller the better and all of the USB to ethernet adapters I've seen are to big for my idea.

Looking for a Raspberry Pi alternative with 2 ethernet ports.

I just had an idea pop into my head and now I'm looking for a Raspberry Pi alternative that has 2 ethernet ports for a project I want to work on. I don't care about any of the specs as long as it has 2 ethernet ports (even 10Mbps will do), it runs some version of Debian, and is under $100 with a...

@raindog308 I don't think Debian would survive a nuclear attack... CentOS FTW! :P

Who is going to disappear first - Burst.net/DigiPlus vs. volumeDrive

If BurstNet is smart they will. Somebody on WHT posted a really good strategy for BurstNet to accomplish the same thing they are doing now without the negative impact of it. We'll see how it goes.

Apparently our tickets were going to a "blackhole" at COLO@ so that's why it took them almost a month to setup our network. Luckily I got in touch with Ryan on here via PM and things are moving right along. New Jersey should be live tonight, I just like to see at least 2 days of uptime before I...

    Burst.net Continues their Implosion!

Their offices were in their PA data center so closing down the data center means closing down their offices. I'm just speculating based on the previous CEO not knowing about the move until today and stating he is leaving the company (I read it as he doesn't have much of a choice because he...

    Burst.net Continues their Implosion!

I doubt they'd be willing to pay them the same amount to work remotely if they have to hire new people to do any hand-on work. The whole point of moving to a different state is to save money and adding more staff doesn't seem logical in that sense.

    Burst.net Continues their Implosion!

If he was really left in the dark then it sounds like they aren't going to help with relocation. My work gave me almost 2 months paid time off, free plane tickets/hotels/food, and a huge tax-free check and it was still a strenuous event for my family. It sounds like he has less than a month to...

How do you organize your pictures?

@notFound I think I have backups covered. :) And I am adding my tablet into the loop for realtime syncing also so I can have 2 mobile devices with all of my files.

How do you organize your pictures?

Today we got home from getting my daughter her first haircut and we're uploading all of the photos and videos from 2 cameras to our Facebook accounts and while I was uploading my pictures I realized how unorganized my "Pictures" folder is and I wanted to find a way to make organizing my pictures...

Running haveged to enhance your system entropy

Before we switched to haveged it was 3986 entropy. I'm keeping rngd in our build template for now but I might change it to haveged depending on if I notice any difference or we get any tickets as a result over the next month.

Running haveged to enhance your system entropy

I switched off rngd and enabled haveged on our nodes to see if I can notice any difference and I can't say that I do, maybe our clients will though so I'll run it for a month and see what happens.

So the Free Domain Group does NOT offer free domains? I would rethink your name.
