    Cheap Server (dedicated server)

I'm curious to see when they switch nLayer on as their primary upstream provider.

    Cheap Server (dedicated server)

Dacentec gets my vote. I don't know any provider where you can get Dual L5420s, 16GB of RAM with 4x 146GB SAS drives and HW RAID10 for $50/month (only 1 IPv4 address but it comes with a /48 of IPv6).

    Nexus 5 is now available

5"?!? My previous netbook was only 3.9" bigger than that screen.

    Whmcs Blog post

Good. I'm still holding on to my Blesta license just in case but now I'm dedicating my time to other projects and can stop working on our Blesta migration. :)

WHMCS - finally a positive move

Less than 2 minutes, it probably would have been faster but we run our dev stuff on a shared hosting server for simplicity.

    Your views on Blesta?

Their documentation is confusing and writing custom modules is painful for non-developers. I would love to port all of our custom stuff over from WHMCS but I don't expect that to be done this year even if I worked on it full time.

WHMCS - finally a positive move

I like it a lot based on the demo we have installed but there are a lot of factors involved and it would be a lot better for us financially to stick with WHMCS.

WHMCS - finally a positive move

Good catch. I wonder if I can use that excuse when they try to EOL 5.1.x next month. :D

Power saving settings and dedicated servers

The way I see it is it's your server and you should be able to do what you want with it BUT at the same time you don't own the hardware or pay the electric bills so be sure to check the TOS/AUP for the provider and if in doubt, open a ticket with them to verify. I know a lot of dedicated...

WHMCS - finally a positive move

This year of course. That's when 5.1.x is EOL and I'm not confident enough to upgrade to 5.2.x with the recent craziness. ;) I'm not expecting a complete re-write in the next month but if they can provide me something that would make me believe they are serious about providing a critical piece...

    OpenVZ vps disk encryption

Last I read encryptfs depends on the kernel which is not supported in the OpenVZ kernels. Correct me if I'm wrong though because we've had some requests for this but have been unsuccessful so I might just be doing something wrong.

WHMCS - finally a positive move

WHMCS has until November 31st to restore my confidence,if not then I'll cut my losses and pull the trigger on Blesta which we've already done a successful import to and could make it live now but I'm giving WHMCS another chance in hopes of salvaging all of the work I've already done.

    Catalysthost OpenVZ 128MB (TX)

My advice is use a test file from outside of their data center for a more accurate view of their network. Their WAN speed is pretty impressive also. ;) Here's some tests from outside of their network: Download speed from Coloat, Atlanta GA: 22.5MB/s Download speed from Linode, Tokyo, JP...

WHMCS - finally a positive move

They fixed multiple bugs/exploits that their team and a software auditor found. This means that somebody else is looking at the code at least which is a step in the right direction.

WHMCS - finally a positive move

It's also worth noting that the screenshot shows "- Show quoted text -" meaning there is more to the conversation than was posted so looking at it in that context, I'm not sure what to think because at first glance it looks like "We want to find you." but since there was an on-going conversation...

WHMCS - finally a positive move

If they can pay that single guy any amount of money to sign an NDA, even if he doesn't find any exploits during that time it's still worth the money for them. Their goal is most likely preventing public disclosure more than obtaining an actual audit since, like you said, they would better off...

DDoS is a funny joke to ColoCrossing

I find SQL injections hilarious because I like xkcd.

Review of the Ubiquiti EdgeRouter Lite

And for those of you who might need assistance with the CLI, feel free to PM me with specific questions. I'll be happy to help where I can. I'm not an expert and I particularly hate networking, but I'm comfortable with a lot of the basics like BGP, tunnels, static routes, and HA (VRRP).

Review of the Ubiquiti EdgeRouter Lite

The GUI is limited but the CLI is very similar to Vyatta so it's a piece of cake to configure.

    WHMCS 24/10/2013 Vuln

The last communication from them shows that there are a lot of people looking at the code now including a well respected software auditor (vld) which makes me feel a bit better even though our WHMCS dev install is being used primarily to convert over to Blesta as a precaution.
