Did you check nginx's error log & php's error logs to see if there was anything that could give you insight? Socket-based php-fpm should work fine with the conf in your OP. Could it be a permissions issue with the socket file?

N5 owner here. Love it. Battery life isn't too bad, especially compared to my GS3. That said, using a tool like JuiceDefender or Green Power will no doubt help more. Franco's/faux kernel is also a good option, especially with undervolting and the various other tweaks they've baked in.

I would go the Rage4 route and throw your iwStack server out of the mix (or add it as a third webserver) -- unless I misunderstand what you're trying to go for, wouldn't the benefits of directing American visitors to an American server be negated by sending them all to iwStack in the EU anyway...

Any plans to re-expand ND out to the US or anywhere else?
