    Who still uses a blackberry

They are still the most secure brand of smartphone from what I can tell.  I don't use one myself though.

    IP Address usage

Thanks... it's still something like a dynamic address though: does the host likely notify ARIN the minute I spin up the instance?  If not, does it likely notify once I've had the instance for a while, like a month?  Do justifications currently have to be updated every so often, or only when...

    IP Address usage

How do cloud hosts with hourly billing handle the issue of client identification?  For that matter, if I spin up a cloud instance, do some stuff with it, and spin it back down an hour or two later, do they re-use the IP for someone else's newly spun instance right away, or do they let it cool...

(Searching) Custom built HDD mounting solution

I worked at a place that had custom enclosures made for its storage servers.  Details were different from yours, but bent sheet metal is kind of the same everywhere.  Thousands of servers were involved and yet it was still ridiculously expensive per unit. I think I'd try to find an off the...

    Privacy concerns over CGNAT?

I'd expect someone with access to the raw network segment would be able to tcpdump all the IP's on the segment as easily as just specific ports.  Wireshark has a nice GUI that makes that easy.  Am I missing something? I'm more bothered by this ARIN thing as I can't help wondering if 3 letter...

    Privacy concerns over CGNAT?

Wouldn't they have to just log the mapping between NATted port numbers and users?  Is it that hard?  Corporate firewalls already do that.

    Privacy concerns over CGNAT?

I'm wondering what the CGNAT privacy issues are that don't exist for ordinary ISP-supplied ipv4.  Is it just that connections from the same ipv4 address x.y.z.w could be coming from multiple people?  That may actually help their privacy rather than impair it. I'm rather more concerned about...

vpsBoard Exclusive Dedicated Server Offers || E3-1240v3s and Atom C2750s

The C2750 is built for low end virtualization in data centers, it seems.  It is about half as fast as an E3 but uses 1/4 of the power, so it's an efficiency win if you're not hurting for CPU cycles.  It is probably comparable to an L5420 or so in raw speed, and it has some newer extensions like...

Looking for a dedi for FTP Backup

OVH lets you have up to 256 ip's at no monthly charge but $3 one-time charge per address, on the OVH branded line.  I don't know about the cheaper SYS and Kimsufi lines.  You could get a cheap dedi and front it with some VPS's from other vendors... I'd probably do that anyway just to put a...

    Backup VPS

http://www.ovh.com/us/dedicated-servers/backup-storage.xml OVH has ftp/ftps backup that gets down to 0.0084/gb/month on their 10TB plan.  The blurb says you can only reach it from an associated OVH dedicated server, but the control panel appears to let you whitelist arbitrary IP addresses.  I...

OVH 1GB ddos protected VPS, Quebec

Seems to be an new product of theirs: http://www.ovh.com/us/vps/ Purpose of this review is mostly to alert people to its existence.  I'm not going to do detailed tests or anything like that. I got the $2.99 "classic" vps, which I set up with 32 bit Debian 7.  Purpose was for some testing on a...
