Falling off the Grid, Mk. II

Now Aldy you are getting into ADD tune out space for most of us :)  Complex and lots of stuff. Can you elaborate on these? 1. Mozilla Weave (Firefox Sync Server)  --- what exactly does this do / facilitate? 2. Owncloud (w/ CalDAV and CardDAV to sync Contacts and Calendar for my phone -- what...

URPad down, Wholesale Internet and Datashack also down.

Well in Kansas City, I am betting on a network failure due to hardware failure.  Their network runs well, but have been increasing number of outages in the past year.  Either aging hardware or growth up to capacity of devices and humans on staff.

    Best Redundancy

Would be an uber good resource for a howto of some of these high availability self rolled solutions. :) On the cheap and commonly for static content we use Rage4 DNS with multiple front ends distributed geographically.  They have monitoring hooks (API) for detecting offline nodes (unsure if...

More worker Visa abuse in the United States? By a tech company? Oh this is news :0 It has been like this for over a decade. There are many of these Indian sweat shops exploiting foreign labor. So many desperate workers from abroad who never will demand overtime and work at rates less than US...

Email Server or Email Hosting ? Anyone ?

Good luck shopping this offer request. Most hosts tend to stick to the Cpanel as-is install and not go beyond there. Even on WHT there is a true lack of mail type offers. Obviously, mail is a PITA and it is an abuse target and known to soil IPs. All that said, I know others around here are...

Quick Packet - Dual Intel Xeon L5420 - Dell CS24-SC - Dedicated Server Review

The dual quad Xeons in the 54xx series are a pretty big cpumark uptick from many common processors.   Even many of the newer processors that are more common to consumers still can't compete with them. Aside from the "old" stigma, the 54xx's are probably more than sufficient for the next 8-10...

    Falling off the Grid

Add me to the abandonment party.   I long ago ditched using big email providers for anything of importance.  Then again, absent crypto and avoiding users on those honeypot systems, you are joining the monitoring pool just by interacting with one of their 'USERS'. In fact, I think most people...

Live chat, yes, folks ought to have it especially for pre-sales and issues following the transaction. Technical issues should get shoe horned into ticketing.
