ChicagoVPS / CVPS Hacked. New SolusVM exploit? (Content Restored) [PT. 1/2]

Here, I'll say it, hasn't BuyVM had parts on site at Colocrossing since before end of the business day?  By my clock, 8 hours or so right?

With the development of new alternative panels soon to hit the market...

The unified - one - system would rock from my client perspective. I am excited about the new panels and hope folks follow through and develop alternatives.  Nothing against Solus, but pretty big issues and isn't the first time

Hmm what did my buddy Chris say? "Have any evidence? Please share it. I find this whole thread VERY funny as its the most cockamamie thing I have ever heard of."

Where's @W1V_Lee?  CVPS_Chris owes him an apology too. Look at what I found :) to which CVPS_Chris replied:     Later on the same thread CVPS_Chris said:   [found here: http://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/9815/leb-let-policy-on-providers-lying-about-who-they-are ] The thread...

High availability feasible for low cost?

Yes this will work and others are doing similar things. The problem with using HAProxy or anything similar by your numbers is that you only have 2 of them.  Geographically, 2 is not enough, redundancy wise, you need 3 and when adding geography you probably need, oh 5-6. Best to stick with...

ChicagoVPS / CVPS Hacked. New SolusVM exploit? (Content Restored) [PT. 1/2]

There weren't too many hosts smacked by this.  RamNode was the highest profile provider around here and while it took time, I think they rescued everything. There were something like 1000+ people who had more than one VPS with CVPS.   So, that practice is roughly 10% of their total VPSes...

ChicagoVPS / CVPS Hacked. New SolusVM exploit? (Content Restored) [PT. 1/2]

Folks unsure of the status of their VPS should submit tickets to CVPS directly.  I know their staff is insanely flooded and probably will have a good wait time for a response. Folks are chattering a bit on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/chicagovps/posts/683328475017314 If you lost data, it...

ChicagoVPS / CVPS Hacked. New SolusVM exploit? (Content Restored) [PT. 1/2]

So very true. For the newbies, redundancy is N+1, which means THREE.  That's right, if you are making money/have paying customers you should have a live with live standby VPS running -- either a cluster or something with low enough DNS TTL's to get people semi-gracefully over to the live...

    houston servers

That's why non-Houston locations in Texas are much more popular.  The latency to Dallas or Austin is really low. Dealing with hurricanes, potential damage/loss, etc. just isn't a prudent way to run a business.  Houston is known for hurricane potential, so seems like a mighty big risk to take to...

ChicagoVPS / CVPS Hacked. New SolusVM exploit? (Content Restored) [PT. 1/2]

From reading the various public releases and keeping up a bit on CVPS: 1. Atlanta nodes were not being backed up. 2. Backups *seem* to be on a weekly basis. Good luck to those of you who weren't self-backing up to another VPS elsewhere.   Your data and VPS if not online by now is very likely...

ChicagoVPS / CVPS Hacked. New SolusVM exploit? (Content Restored) [PT. 1/2]

This is my last tidbit of info so folks understand the scope of the attack from a total victim/client perspective and why restores (even with enough man power) could take eons: These are the CVPS nodes that reported high downtime in Pingdom and assumed to be nodes where major problems and data...

ChicagoVPS / CVPS Hacked. New SolusVM exploit? (Content Restored) [PT. 1/2]

Who has/can find the list of nodes that were lost/deleted/hosed in this attack? ATL-VPS1 was one of them. That server had 317GB of RAM sold on it and 161 virtual servers running on it.

ChicagoVPS / CVPS Hacked. New SolusVM exploit? (Content Restored) [PT. 1/2]

Well, it isn't that simple.  Fabozzi lied about the number of nodes then around the last hack and has lied prior to this hack. select nodeid from nodes; = a list of all nodes High nodeid = 151. But there aren't 151 nodes :) select count(nodeid) from nodes; +---------------+ |...
