    BuyVM launches new website!

I liked the old site better, to be honest :) Anyhow, one big issue I can see is with the readability of the text on the frontpage. It's too gray. Especially in the top section.

    Reliable Domain Registrar

I use internet.bs, and haven't really seen any chances since the acquisition, other than them starting to charge VAT and adding Bitcoin as a payment method. Reasons I like them: Cheap Permanently free WHOIS protection (for the domains where that's possible/allowed, anyway) No having to...

Jonny Nguyen - GreenValueHost - Raided by Police.

    XP, in this case :)

If you use Hola, uninstall it right now

Hadn't gotten around to posting it here yet, but here you go: http://adios-hola.org/ Excerpt from the table of contents: Unless you like your system to be infested with malware, you should probably get rid of Hola :)

Jonny Nguyen - GreenValueHost - Raided by Police.

Turned out you could circumvent group policy restrictions by unplugging the ethernet cable right after login (while it was loading your profile), waiting for it to give up and boot into local admin, and plugging the cable back in. Reimaged on every boot. Good times were had on the fiber uplink...

Jonny Nguyen - GreenValueHost - Raided by Police.

Really, the prison system doesn't do much good for anybody. It just makes people antagonistic towards society and allows for them to create 'dubious' contacts with others. It doesn't help people to 'reintegrate' into society at all. This has been figured out (scientifically) for a while, but...

    IP Camera Security

Friendly advice; put all your IP cameras on an internal, fenced-off network of some sort. Firmware security of IP cameras is notoriously bad.

GVH former head guy Eric Walstrom Charged for Hacking His High School

Hardly. Tests don't test ability to learn or comprehend; they test ability to pass tests.

UK government quietly passed legislation that exempts GCHQ, police, and other intelligence officers

I have yet to see a single scientifically valid source that supports this notion. It's easy to make that claim based on "common sense" (when only thinking about it very superficially), but unless it is clearly and scientifically proven, it should be assumed to be false.

Regarding new offers and post counts.

I have to agree with this. I can't see money improving things here - if anything, it's going to cause a shitstorm if/when users (or worse, forum staff) comment critically on an offer thread, with hosts complaining that "users shouldn't be allowed to trash my thread, I've paid for it". Monetary...

{Newbie} VPS security, software install, etc help

Right. Avoid ZPanel and the Sentora fork. They're utterly broken from a security point of view. Have a look at my last interaction with them, or at how Rack911 gave up on Sentora... Seriously, installing either of the two is practically a guarantee that your server will be rooted.

LXD Containers: Cram 14.5X More Guests On A Server

Wouldn't be the first time Canonical suffered from the NIH syndrome.

    Vultr and false claims.

That would make DigitalOcean not a "cloud host", then.

BlueVM sold / change of ownership? (UPDATE 5/14: Now owned by ChicagoVPS)

Seems the project disappeared from GitHub. EDIT: Here is what I think is the most recent fork - it had a number of pull requests accepted into the main Feathur repository. EDIT2: And somebody seems to have forked it. EDIT3: And a seemingly dead rewrite using Yii.

    Multi Virtualization

This disturbs me. Last I checked, LXC wasn't meant to provide secure isolation from malicious users yet.

This seems like a good idea to me :)

Regarding new offers and post counts.

Isn't this exactly the kind of user we don't want on VPSBoard? Only here to advertise their company, no community engagement.

UK government quietly passed legislation that exempts GCHQ, police, and other intelligence officers

Right. But GCHQ's antics have been ongoing for much, much longer than that, ie. before the Tory government. The legalization of what they're doing therefore seems more of a response to the leaks, than a particular Tory-specific idea to me. I don't think blaming "the Tories" is really accurate here.

UK government quietly passed legislation that exempts GCHQ, police, and other intelligence officers

If it's anything like the government in NL, it has nothing to do with the parties in charge, and everything with the inherent greed for power that a representative democracy brings with it. How long has the "Tory government" been in power for?
