    E3-1230 16GB Ram, 4 x 1 TB HDD, 100TB BW, KVM/IPMI, Leaseweb DC

So what was your position "in the industry" between 2006 and 2011?

    Pings!

It's not that extensive, I'll just briefly hijack your thread with the technical details :) Basically I'm rolling my own CDN (geoDNS-based, not anycast, as that is far too expensive to do right), using Tahoe-LAFS as storage backend. My usual storage grid, multiple frontend servers with 500GB...

    VPS-Forge is shutting down

    From the LowEndTalk thread:

    Pings!

Hm, not in particular. I'll probably be setting up a proper OpenVZ environment on one of my Kimsufi's at some point in the future (for personal stuff, not a VPS business), I might be able to give you a VM on there then :) No idea when that'll be, though, very busy with my CDN right now.

    Pings!

Yeah, that unfortunately doesn't work as well in NL as it does in many other countries. We only have a few (public and actually used) airports (due to the small size of the country), but lots of cities inbetween.

Mozilla announces the death of unencrypted HTTP

The current proposal is to restrict any new feature that cannot be polyfilled - not just "security-sensitive" features. For example, had this been introduced a few years ago, you wouldn't have had the Shadow DOM or mutation observers - both of which are critical concepts in "frontend view...

    Pings!

Aha. Ramnode NL isn't in Rotterdam though, rather in Alblasserdam, with Dataplace :)

    Pings!

Are you sure? I see RamNode NL in the ping targets but not in the sources - those all seem US-based, unless I'm misreading. Other than that, OVH would probably be a good place to ping from - their international routing is rather good.

    Pings!

You should add an EU server as ping source ;)

    VPS-Forge is shutting down

Not that I know of. Reading the e-mail, it sounds like the good old "we can no longer bear the tax on our personal lives" that most established provider shutdowns seem to result from.

    How cheap can they go?

Seems like Allwinner may be subsidizing the parts. Perhaps they're trying to pull a Broadcom.

    VPS-Forge is shutting down

Received this 4 days ago... Unfortunate, they were quite good :(

    Limiting New User Posts

That seems like throwing out the baby with the bathwater to me. It's perfectly possible for a legitimate new user to make a lot of (good) posts in a short amount of time. Just deal with the problematic users instead, and/or hide the post count from the profile block.

LAN based VOIP solution OPEN SOURCE Linux

Missed call notification is almost mutually exclusive with true peer-to-peer - there is no central bookkeeping server to keep track of missed calls, so it can only work if both clients are connected. It's possible with a rendezvous server of some sort, but then it's not truly peer-to-peer anymore :)

    What domain registrar you use

I use Internet.bs myself. They offer free WHOIS protection where possible (not just for the first year), are rather cheap, and I have very good experiences with their support. Unfortunately their selection of TLDs is somewhat limited, though.

Decided against it? Your signature still says you accept Bitcoin and Litecoin...

    FOSS video conferencing software?

The problem with Jitsi is that it works for great for some people, and not at all for others, no matter what they do, for no obvious reason. On top of that it's Java (ie. a resource hog), and the UI is just plain bad, unless that has changed...

    Cloud IDEs?

In what sense is your workflow "inefficient"? I generally find that "cloud IDEs" add more hassle than they're worth, and there may be a much better solution to your problem.

    FOSS video conferencing software?

Unfortunately, Jitsi is extremely buggy... EDIT: Audio/video *is* over XMPP - there are some XMPP extensions (XEPs) for that, like Jingle. Theoretically any client could support it.
