Anyone running solar powered stuff at home?

Dealing with grid tie officially is nothing short of miserable. Permits, electrician, inspection, etc. Everything they recommend should be done if you have a generator also....   Usually that's a facility entry main switch to drop the grid feed.  Today surely are automated ones out there that...

Anyone running solar powered stuff at home?

If even...  Depends on how you utilize your batteries... If you keep them mostly full on charge (requires regular power in without overcharging them) and don't deep discharge (should discharge like 25% of battery ever or severely reduces life of battery) then with better batteries you can get...

Staminus sites offline - massively hacked

Looks like their mailing list was likely used prior by Black Lotus according to one of those threads... Ouchie. I don't think / hope that wasn't an attack in your direction :)  I never found your prices to be cheap.  Affordable is a little murky, but I'll buy that. Sustainability is the...

    Raspberry PI 3 Now Launched!

Any idea of the NUC and where it was watt wise?  I am interested in anything 10 or less watts - mixed average (most of time on computer is idle). I prefer fanless, but the XU4 specs make it desirable.  You are right, the XU4 isn't 5 watts: When in idle: 2.5WWhen in full load: 12W...

    Raspberry PI 3 Now Launched!

Do you have any of the NUC x86's or Intel Compute sticks?  Looking for some observations on both and ideally I can dig up some wattage numbers.  For some reason I don't see them coming in at that 1-3 watt area a lot of ARM stuff does.... The XU4 is likely a 5W+ box. That 2 watt and leave it...

    Raspberry PI 3 Now Launched!

There are.  Just not cheap and board support isn't anywhere near as good as Pi.  Multiple ethernet is rare, but doable now with USB3.0 dongles.

Staminus sites offline - massively hacked

    1. We need a bad provider list around here that entire buying audience at large can reference.  Bad providers are those spamming stolen customer data, repeat spam factories, those known to and proven to intentionally take money from spammers, criminals, etc. Forthcoming. 2. "f you choose...

Staminus sites offline - massively hacked

I knew of Staminus purely as a company specializing in DDoS protection.   Used them before when BuyVM was with them.  Used them with another provider since then. I don't know them to offer security services of any sort.  DDoS protection and other best practices for security seem like they go...

Qualcomm Snapdragon SoCs Found to be Insecure - Multiple Security Issues

So the ever popular phone chip and iOT chip is insecure.  If you are using said chips, contact vendor for update (if they even provide one). CVE-2016-0819 We discovered this particular vulnerability, which is described as a logic bug when an object within the kernel is freed. A node is...

TeslaCrypt Ransomeware Rampant Today via Ad Networks

Today there is a mega ton of ransomware infecting going on.  Malware payloads are being pushed all over the place via ad networks and it's YUGE.  Ransomeware is simple, it encrypts your files and holds them hostage.  To get your data back, you pay the robbers via Bitcoin to reverse the mess...

The Internet of Things (IOT) Should Not Include your Sex Toys

So this Internet of Things (iOT) is pretty creepy.  I remember seeing fridges with internet connectivity many years ago and I was MEH!  that's idiotic about that then, and even moreso today. With the constant screen time most of society already has, who needs more e-garbage to chatter on the...

Western Digital now makes a $46, 346GB Raspberry Pi specific hard drive!

That's different and interesting... hard to combo fit this in any case though... gets messy. Cheaper than an SSD of similar size too.

I am with you @jarland. Snowden did in LavaBit.  Anything 'national security' like that is going to kill even a mid sized business.

Private Internet Access - I endorse.

Bad guy goes using anonymous services to cause hell for ex and new fling.   Threats made.  FBI gets involved, all activity leads back to Private Internet Access, a VPN provider. PIA claims prior to not store information on customer activity.  FBI sends subpoena, PIA tells them uselessness...

The 2016 (USA) Presidential Election Thread

Obama is bad, been bad.  No 3rd term, not allowed... No way... Sanders did alright as mayor of Burlington.  But rest of his stay in public office has been meh, ineffective grandstanding.   I like some of his schtick, just this hate of money is hoot... cause... that clown is pulling $156k~...

I don't know... did Staminus at any point clearly say credit card details were public and unencrypted?  cause it's a big deal... I didn't see it, but not saying they did ... but that should have been NUMERO UNO since these customers all have to contact their bank and get new card issued.

Everyone watching the insane leftists rioting in Chicago?  Entirely closed down Trump event. I am all for people protesting.  What happened in Chicago though, heads should roll over.
