Race to the Bottom News: 2GB RAM, 2IPs for $1.67 monthly

    I'll go to 99 cents a month with a 40-year commitment.

    123systems dd on new node.

Probably new, yes. Probably full, no. You'll be able to chart the addition of new VPSes to that server by periodically rerunning your test.  When it falls to sub-megabyte/sec, then the node will be considered 80% full  :P

123systems - Issues and not responding to ticket.

On WHT, Andrew will show up triumphantly whenever someone has done wrong and he has the tickets to prove it. If it's 123 at fault...crickets.

    Good resources for learning PHP?

In other words, it's the American vodka of the spirits world: not the superior technology if you're a purist, but getting better. Thought it might help to translate into language Aldryic understands.

    Paleo diet

Well that's insightful. Personally, I don't bother with ovarian cancer prevention.  Especially because I've been male my entire life.

    Good resources for learning PHP?

This alone demonstrates that PHP is not really professional grade: No consistent naming convention is used. Some functions are verb_noun() and others are noun_verb(). Some are underscore_separated, while others are CamelCase or runtogether. Some are prefixed_byModuleName, and others use a...

    Good resources for learning PHP?

#15 is my favorite on that list.  mysql_real_escape_string() makes me laugh. PHP is a mess.  However, you can write good PHP code.  It's just that you have to fight the language to do it. There's really nothing unique about php, perl, or python.  They're all the same language with different...

    Paleo diet

Losing weight is all about calories in vs. burn out. No doubt, it's easier to lose weight (eat less than you burn) if your diet isn't fast food.  But you could lose weight eating nothing but fast food if you didn't eat much of it (or burned a ton).  Of course, there's more to overall health...

So, I guess we run a charity now.

You should have said "we don't sponsor free VPSes, but you can get a free VPS from these guys", and then give him this link: https://www.vpsbycall.com/

So, I guess we run a charity now.

"Between the horses of love and lust We are trampled underfoot You're so cruel"  -- U2, "So Cruel" I guess that lyric needs to change to "ponies". If your idea isn't worth $15 - the cost of a BuyVM 128 he was asking for - then it's not worth spending any time on.  Go hock the action figures...

    The future of MyRSK

Dealing with 16 datacenters as a small customer, presumably in multiple foreign countries, does not sound like fun. That's also a ton of spare gear to stash, assuming you provide some kind of SLA...

    SecureDragon to discontinue VPN service.

What is the avenue for abuse?  Your VPN client just allows you to send network traffic - you can't login to the VPN server and soak up CPU, RAM, disk, etc. like a normal VPS. I think what KuJoe's discovered that there's a significant desktop/end user support side to offering VPN.  I know a lot...

    VBulletin.com got jacked!

Seems like lots and lots of people want portals, CMSes, blogs, galleries, etc.  Just because you don't want a feature doesn't make it tragic bloat.

Uruguay new location, interesting? not? why? We love your feedback !

There are already some VPS providers in Uruguary, but not at LEB prices. A list of farflung VPSes: http://www.exoticvps.com/

    VBulletin.com got jacked!

"traditional western forums" - nice :-) In a lot of cases, login wouldn't matter.  I don't follow VB but I ran IPB for a while and there were periodic vulnerabilities, none of which IIRC involved logins. I do find IPB to have a better system, though their CMS is very complex and a very steep...

    Quiting smoking.

I quit 20-odd years ago.  Still crave a cig periodically.  Used to smoke a pipe as well and inhaled with that - had a tobacconist who stocked a custom blend for me.  Cigarettes are really the McDonald's of tobacco in comparison.  But I quit it all. E-cigs, vaping, blah blah - just quit...

VPSAce hacked, database stolen, encryption key for cards likely taken

Sheesh, second link on Bing for "Taylor Smyth Vypor" is a pastebin of his mother and father's SSN.

GreenValueHost tells their non high paying clients to GTFO

A load average of 15 might be just fine - it's not hard to find 16-core servers anymore.  Depends on the hardware underneath, and if they had the IO to support it.

OK, which one of you stole my credit card...

The card was used for a variety of online and offline purchases, so it could very easily be a coincidence. The only non-paypal providers I've were AWS and Azure, and if those two were hacked it'd be in the news.  All the rest were via Paypal.
