Looking for (urgent!) help on an archiving project for a few days

We (ArchiveTeam) are currently archiving Blip.tv, as it's shutting down, but we've run into a bit of a capacity snafu. It's an all-volunteer (and very time-sensitive!) effort. The archival is distributed amongst many systems, and the archived data is then uploaded to one of several 'rsync...

Oracle tells its customers to stop analyzing its code

Gosh. I sure wonder what the effect of this is going to be on the supply of Oracle vulnerabilities on the black market.

    Receiving a refund via BitCoin

Coinbase should show you a transaction ID somewhere. Look it up on Blockchain.info, and see whether it went through (and got confirmed). If yes, it was paid, and it's now Internet.bs/BitPay's problem (link them to the transaction if necessary). If not, Coinbase screwed something up and you...

In the EU, you are required to do so, in fact.

I don't think we have any rules preventing that?

Minor update to vpsBoard offer submission rules

Hrm, not happy about the removal of the datacenter rule. A rule being commonly ignored shouldn't be a reason for its removal, if there's a good reason for that rule existing - rather, posts violating the rule should be more strictly moderated. Of course it's not going to work, if there is no...

Site5 and Verio accquired by EIG

Well... can't say Site5 wouldn't fit into the family.

FYI: Planned vpsBoard maintenance will be occuring later this evening.

I honestly can't say that I'm surprised. IPB doesn't exactly have a reputation for following up on bug reports and such, and it hasn't had such a reputation for years.

Widespread misunderstanding of cloud from the people who claim that there is a widespread misunderst

I'm going to stick with "there is not a single supposedly 'cloud' concept that cannot be expressed more precisely, so how about we stop using the term 'cloud' altogether?"

Meh, not a big fan of it. The spacing in the editor is weird, in that the padding around the contents is far too big. Picture The navigation bar is very jarring. Picture Where are my permalinks?! Generally, the contrast in this theme is very poor. Eg. everything is black and white here Well...

Vps webhosts that allow .onion (tor) sites?

That's more for relays/exits, though, not hidden services.

SSD VPS Hosting 25% OFF! in USA & UK by SOLVPS® - Windows VPS / Linux VPS

Added you to my list of Bitcoin-accepting providers. Just copying the WHT ad and not even changing the promo codes is a bit lazy, though ;)

Vps webhosts that allow .onion (tor) sites?

Why would you want to do that?

Vps webhosts that allow .onion (tor) sites?

The generic list contains all Tor relays, but not hidden services. The exit list only contains Tor exits, not relays or hidden services. You should never use the generic list for blocking, and indeed people don't generally do that. If you need to keep out abuse, you need to use the exit node...

    OpenVZ

Because there's two different things at play here - "security through obscurity" vs "security by design". A "proprietary" system has to do with the former, whereas picking KVM (to some degree) has to do with the latter.

Critical Vulnerability in RDP Could Allow Remote Code Execution

It doesn't, unfortunately. The text is poorly worded. Look at the 'affected software' matrix below, and you'll see that x64 versions are also listed.

    Random process name sending DDoS

I've seen this on a system that got owned through an SSH bruteforce (on a non-22 port). It tries to wipe its own logs, so that could be why you're not seeing any evidence of intrusion. Fortunately, the particular sample I encountered wasn't very successful at it, and thus left a trace...
