Why would you want to do that?

The generic list contains all Tor relays, but not hidden services. The exit list only contains Tor exits, not relays or hidden services. You should never use the generic list for blocking, and indeed people don't generally do that. If you need to keep out abuse, you need to use the exit node...

Because there's two different things at play here - "security through obscurity" vs "security by design". A "proprietary" system has to do with the former, whereas picking KVM (to some degree) has to do with the latter.
