1 gigabit per second internet connection?

Home connection is cheap, commercial connections are marginally higher, but both are usually provided on a best-effort basis with a slight difference in the contention ratio. The real expensive ones are the bandwidth at DC, especially those with good regional peering/upstreams. Although the...

    Instant Windows RDP @ $3.5/m Linux Servers @ $2/m - 50% off - FREE Trial Available

It is not possible to get Windows 8 (in fact all MS client OS) properly licensed on VPS, not with SPLA at least. And SPLA is the only licensing model for hosting providers.

    123systems dd on new node.

I for one, still can't figure out why dd result matters when it comes to VPS. Unless I'm doing a lot of writes to the disk all day long, I'm not going to do this dd test any time. However, if I'm doing that much of I/O to the HDD, most likely I will get an abuse warning before anything.

    Spam/Replica Friendly Providers?

Keep getting their promotional emails, and then I did some checks on where the emails were blasted and where the sites were hosted. The owner with the email address ([email protected]) holds quite a number of domains, including but not limited to loveutiffany.com, tiffanycrown.com...

Adaptec RAID Card with Lost SN and WWN

Tried to upgrade the firmware of a 5405Z the other day using arcconf. The upgrade failed, and that leaves me with a card that refused to show up on the boot screen. I then tried to do the upgrade using mode 0, but received a complaint instead, saying firmware I have on the USB drive doesn't...

    How does KVM CPU work?

Hmm... where did you get that idea from? In general CPU resources are limited and therefore shared by all virtualized containers, by default. So unless the provider specifically mention that it's a dedicated resource, otherwise I'd take it as shared.

    HighPoint RocketCache 3240x8/3244x8

Does anyone have any experience in using these cards from Highpoint? It looks interesting, reviews look good on desktop, and most importantly it's not tagged with a sky-high price. Now what I'm not sure is whether they are suitable to be installed on a server that runs a couple of virtual...

    Software RAID vs hardware RAID

Hmm... this reminds me of an article that I/O Flood posted on their blog last year. "Hardware raid or software raid? Our take on the great religious debate" (http://blog.ioflood.com/?p=26)
